Scots in contention for radio industry awards

SCOTTISH programmes and presenters are among the contenders for industry awards at the Sony Radio Academy Awards tonight.

In: Demand Scotland, of Bauer Radio Scotland, is up against Radio 1’s Fearne Cotton, 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, Michael Buble on Magic 105.4, and Radio 3’s In Tune for best music programme.

Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross, on BBC Radio Scotland, is in the mix for the best specialist music programme, alongside Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood, who picked up the prize last year.

Bauer Radio Scotland’s Boogie and Dingo faces competition from comic Frank Skinner for the best entertainment programme prize, which Skinner won last year, as well as 6 Music’s Adam and Joe and Real Radio’s Dixie and Gayle.

Meanwhile Richard Keys and Andy Gray, who left their TV roles at Sky Sports under a cloud following a sexism row, have been nominated for the best sports programme gong for their talkSPORT show.

Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans and Absolute Radio DJ Christian O’Connell will battle it out for the hotly-contested breakfast show honours at the awards.
