Scotland striker Steven Fletcher banned from driving after being caught speeding

Returning Scotland hero Steven Fletcher has been hit with a driving ban after being convicted of speeding in England

The Sunderland striker was fined £1700 after being caught doing 77mph in a 50mph zone and banned from drivintg for six months.

The 25-year-old had previously pleaded guilty and didn’t appear at court in Warwickshire yesterday.

Richard Humphries, presiding magistrate, said: “I have to express our great disappointment that Mr Fletcher has not attended court.

“We do not think it is acceptable that just because somebody is a professional footballer they can excuse themselves from the court process.”

Fletcher was caught speeding on the M42/M6 Toll near Warwickshire.

Earlier this week the former Hibs man buried the hatchet with Scotland boss Craig Levein and returned to the national squad.
