Scot Young funeral takes place in London

THE girlfriend of bankrupt property tycoon Scot Young led mourners at his funeral today, after his body was discovered impaled on railings at the base of luxury flats last month.

Mr Young, 52, who was sent to prison during a vitriolic and public divorce row over a multimillion-pound settlement, died at Montagu Square, Marylebone, central London, on December 8, in what witnesses described as a ‘’grisly’’ and ‘’brutal’’ scene.

An inquest hearing last month heard Dundee-born Mr Young’s body was discovered ‘’impaled on railings’’ and there were no suspicious circumstances.

Around 100 mourners, many of whom were dressed all in black, arrived at Kensal Green Cemetery in west London today for Mr Young’s funeral service.

Many of his relatives and friends were driven to a private entrance to the crematorium chapel before his burial at the cemetery.

In cold and bright weather, the hearse arrived carrying a mahogany coffin topped with floral tributes, including one made of roses from his daughters, Sasha and Scarlet, which read “Daddy”.

Among the tributes, one message read: “We will always miss you very much. In your absence you will remain by Sasha and Scarlet’s side.”

Another message said: “Dear Scot, missing you badly mate and you will always be remembered.”

One tribute spoke of their “great memories” with Mr Young, adding that he was “one in a million.”

After the hour-long service, Mr Young’s friends and family emerged from the chapel led by Noelle Reno, his American model girlfriend and one of the stars of the Ladies Of London reality TV show.

In a statement following his death, Ms Reno, 31, said she was ‘’distraught by the sudden loss of my best friend’’ and wanted to ‘’grieve in peace’’.

Mr Young’s daughters were also understood to have attended the service, but his ex-wife Michelle, 50, who he had been locked in a long legal battle, was not believed to have attended.

The couple, who started a relationship in 1989, separated in 2006.

Mr Young was jailed for six months for contempt of court during his high-profile matrimonial row with his former partner as she accused him of hiding away more than £400 million.

Last March, a High Court hearing was told that Mr Young’s estranged wife remained empty-handed more than three months after she was awarded £20 million by a judge.

Mr Justice Moor had previously assessed Mr Young to be worth £40 million - after analysing evidence at a trial - and said Mrs Young was entitled to half of that.

But Mr Young said he had suffered a financial ‘’meltdown’’ seven years ago and was bankrupt and penniless, with debts adding up to £28 million.

The judge described the litigation - which began more than six years ago - as ‘’quite extraordinary’’.

He said that over the years Mrs Young ran up a legal bill of more than £6 million and employed 13 sets of lawyers and four teams of accountants.

Mr Young and Ms Reno recently appeared together in Ladies Of London, alongside model Caprice and other London socialites.

The final episode of the programme, which is similar to the Real Housewives franchise, aired last month on ITVBe.

During the series, which also starred socialite and businesswoman Caroline Stanbury and the late Alexander McQueen’s muse Annabelle Neilson, Ms Reno referred to Mr Young’s divorce battle and the press coverage of it.

Cameras followed the couple as they viewed plush places to potentially rent in London as well as showing them in social situations with their co-stars.
