Scans to reveal dogs’ thoughts

Scientists are using brain scans to work out what dogs are thinking.

It is the first time canine thought processes have been captured by MRI scanners, which are already being used to unlock the secrets of the human brain.

Researchers from Emory University in the US monitored the brains of two dogs as they were offered a treat.

The dogs were trained to walk into the scanner and stay still while the images were made.

Scientists found that the area of the brain linked to reward lit up when a hand signal indicating the treat would be offered was given, reports journal PLoS ONE.
