SamCam’s eyes on Scots chic

Samantha Cameron was part of the front-row audience at Scottish designer Christopher Kane’s autumn-winter show at London Fashion Week yesterday.

The Prime Minister’s wife, who is ambassador to the British Fashion Council, watched as models strutted their stuff in an array of red, purple, blue and black garments which fused floral patterns with an array of metallic prints.

Other celebrities in the coveted front row included Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue, presenter Alexa Chung and models Yasmin Le Bon and Laura Bailey.

Chung described Kane as a “creative genius”.

“I think from the get-go he was a very impressive talent,” she said. “Donatella Versace got behind him, as did Anna Wintour, and that’s because they recognised he was a creative genius and saw someone who could challenge people like Alexander McQueen in terms of being that important for London during Fashion Week.

“I think he is at the forefront of the industry, he’s who people visit London to see.”

Meanwhile, with their flippy woven mini dresses, deep V-neck jumpers and classic cigarette trousers, models also took to the catwalk yesterday to show off the winter-autumn designs by Pringle of Scotland.

Newly-appointed creative director Alistair Carr’s brief has been to “reinvent the iconic brand for the 21st century”.

Carr, who describes his design signature as “clean, modern, active”, said his latest collection was inspired by memories of school uniforms from his youth.
