Rev runs off with four top TV awards

Comedy series Rev has landed four titles at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards.

The BBC2 show – starring Tom Hollander as an inner-city vicar – was named best comedy/entertainment show and collected the writer’s award, while Olivia Colman landed two prizes for her role in the show.

Gareth Malone’s series The Choir: Military Wives – which produced the Christmas No 1 single – was named best factual entertainment, while the best single drama prize went to Eric And Ernie, about the early years of comedy legends Morecambe and Wise.

Chris Watson was named radio broadcaster of the year for Radio 4’s The Wire. The station’s Archive On 4 was named radio programme of the year.

Winners of the awards – now in their 38th year – were chosen by journalists who write about TV and radio. They are being presented at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane today.

Founder of production company Hartswood Films, Beryl Vertue, was awarded the outstanding contribution to broadcasting prize for her work on series such as Men Behaving Badly, Coupling and Sherlock.
