£100m price tag on 20th century art

A SALE of 20th century masterpieces is expected to raise around £100 million.

Work by Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani and Henri Matisse will all go on sale at Christie’s in London on 
6 February.

The highlight of the impressionist and modern art sale is Modigliani’s Jeanne Hebuterne (au chapeau) – a 1919 portrait of his lover that is estimated to sell for between £16m and £22m.

Two works by Picasso, a 1960 female nude called Nu accroupi (Seated Woman) and Minotaure aveugle conduit par une petite fille (Blind Minotaur guided by a little girl) are estimated to fetch £5m and £3.5m respectively.

Jay Vincze, director of Christie’s International, said: “Buyers continue to be hungry for the best and rarest works of impressionist and modern art.”

The sale is expected to raise between £67m and £99.7m.
