Prince Harry ‘saved soldier from homophobic abuse’

An openly gay former soldier claims that Prince Harry saved him from being tormented by homophobic troops while in the armed forces, after the abuse became so severe that he feared he would be murdered.

Lance Cpl James Wharton says that Harry stepped in after a group of infantrymen made life difficult for him and called out those in question.

While training in Canada in 2008, the then 21-year-old went to Harry, his commander, in tears fearing for his life.

According to reports, Lance Cpl Wharton told Prince Harry: “I think I’m going to be murdered by the infantry.”

Gratitude

Harry listened to the soldier’s concerns before stating: “Right I’m going to sort this s*** out once and for all.”

The Royal then stepped in and blasted the offending troops before reporting them to a senior officer.

Lance Cpl Wharton has since left the forces, but is due to release a book about his life and experiences, Out in the Army. In it he tells of his gratitude to Prince Harry for helping him.
