PIP implant campaigners slate Sturgeon

THE Scottish health secretary has been criticised by victims of the PiP breast implant scandal for failing to back their calls for a public inquiry.

The PiP Implants Scotland campaign group accused Nicola Sturgeon of “denying them answers”, saying she had not supported their request for an inquiry.

Spokeswoman for the PiP Implants Scotland campaign group, Trisha Devine, said: “We’re pretty surprised by Nicola Sturgeon’s response.

“We were hoping for support in our efforts to find out what happened and make sure this never happens again. The least we’re owed is a transparent, independent and full public inquiry into this nightmare.”

A Scottish Government spokeswoman said: “This is a UK-wide issue and we have already made clear that UK-wide reviews – which will include Scotland – are under way. Following the reviews we will take forward any recommendations that are relevant for Scotland.”
