Pilot killed in mid-air plane crash

A PILOT died and two other people have been injured after two light aircraft collided yesterday.

Both planes came down near Great Stretton, near Leicester airport, shortly after 2pm. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch will be launching an investigation.

A police spokesman said: “Inquiries are in their early stages, but from initial reports it is believed that the aircraft collided in the air. One of the aircraft contained one person, a man, who died at the scene. The second aircraft contained two men who both received minor injuries”.

A road near the crash scene remained closed last night.
