In pictures: Artist Ron Mueck’s first solo show

CONTROVERSIAL Australian artist Ron Mueck prepares for his first major solo presentation in London for more than a decade with an exhibition at Hauser & Wirth.

Mueck’s sculptures link reality to the world of folklore, myth and magic. Above, Drift, a small-scale sculpture of a lightly tanned man sporting tropical swim shorts provokes questions of the brevity of life. Right, in Still Life, an inverted dead chicken, stripped of its feathers, explores how the fear of death acts as a balance to the fecundity of life. Woman with Sticks, below, suggests a sturdy middle-aged woman tackling the impossible tasks set in fairytales myths and legends
