Peer aged 95 urges election-day holiday

GENERAL election polling days should be made bank holidays to ease the problem of long queues to vote in the evenings, a 95-year-old Labour peer said yesterday.

Lord Strabolgi's call follows problems at last month's general election, when there were cases of people being stuck in queues when polling stations closed.
