Pampered pooches on show at first day of Crufts

PAMPERED pooches bow-wowed judges on the first day of the world’s largest annual dog show yesterday.

Crufts began in Birmingham with dogs on display of all different shapes and sizes. Some had been shaved, others backcombed, and all were putting their best paw forward in the hope of picking up a prize.

And it is likely to be a dog-eat-dog competition as it runs at the NEC in Birmingham until Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Kennel Club yesterday said there had been a rush to imitate the Duchess of Cambridge’s choice of dog.

Interest in cocker spaniels has significantly increased since Kate got puppy Lupo, with searches for the breed on the club’s website rising by almost 50 per cent in the past two months.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, advised people to visit the Discover Dogs area at Crufts, to help them choose the right breed of dog for them.
