Tornados from 617 Squadron, which took part in raids over Germany during the Second World War – and famously deployed “bouncing bombs” against dams to flood the Ruhr Valley – flew for the last time in Afghanistan before disbanding temporarily.

Members of the squadron took cameras with them on some of their final flights yesterday to capture dramatic views from the cockpit.

When it reforms in 2016, 617 Squadron will have both RAF and Royal Navy personnel and fly the F-35B Lightning II joint strike fighter.
