Over-55s get a taste for clubbing

Older holidaymakers are turning into silver shufflers and heading for clubbing spots abroad, a survey has revealed.

Tourists aged over 55 are also not adverse to drinking and having holiday romances overseas, a poll by Gnu Insurance found.

But these older holiday- makers tend to stick to wine and beer compared with younger tourists who go for sangria, vodka and cocktails.

Based on responses from more than 2,000 people, the survey showed that 20 per cent of over-55s had danced with strangers abroad and nearly 10 per cent had danced on a table. The top five club scene destinations were Lanzarote, Ibiza, Rio de Janeiro, Magaluf in Spain and Ayia Napa in Cyprus.

As many as 15 per cent of over-55s had had a holiday romance abroad and 14 per cent had been stopped by police.

Gnu Insurance general manager Paul Thilo said: “Our research demonstrates that older generations are remaining young at heart.”
