Ofcom to look into BBC’s coverage of the boat race

The BBC’s coverage of the boat race is being investigated by communications watchdog Ofcom after complaints about bad language being broadcast during the event.

Viewers, who tuned in to watch Oxford win last month’s race, heard the team’s cox Oskar Zorrilla repeatedly swear as he encouraged his rowers.

The BBC apologised at the time for his liberal use of the word “f***” which was picked up by a microphone he was wearing.

The corporation also removed the offending language from the broadcast that it made available on the iPlayer.

Speaking at the time, a spokeswoman said: “BBC Sport take such matters very seriously.

“We would like to reassure our audiences that we will be looking at ways to ensure we can avoid a repetition of these unfortunate incidents in future years.”
