Number of accidental 999 calls is falling

THE number of accidental calls from mobile phones answered by emergency telephone operators is falling, according to new figures.

Scotland Yard fields "silent" 999 calls on behalf of the emergency services across the UK. The system was introduced in 2001 because of the growing menace of time-wasting, inadvertent calls made on mobile-phone handsets.
