‘No excuses’ says David Davis

FORMER Tory leadership contender David Davis accused the Chancellor of being complacent on the economy and relying on “alibis not policy” yesterday.

In a speech to the Centre for Policy studies, he called for more tax cuts and greater reductions in public spending to get the economy moving.

Mr Davis insisted that the severity of the current programme of cuts was “exaggerated” by both the opposition and government.

But he reserved his harshest criticism for George Osborne relying on blaming the euro crisis and the previous Labour government for the recession.

Mr Davis said: “There is a risk that by focusing on parcelling out blame, we accept our circumstances with too much fatalism. In economics, to understand should not be to excuse.”
