Nine MPs in ballot to be deputy Speaker

NINE candidates will battle it out to serve as deputy speakers in the House of Commons, it was announced last night.

Among the candidates is Scots Labour MP Tom Clarke, the veteran member for Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill and a former shadow Scottish secretary. The three deputy speakers will be elected by MPs in a secret ballot today.
