New hotel is to open in Westminster

Work is almost complete on a new hotel which will have a distinctly political theme.

Based close to the Houses of Parliament, the new six-floor InterContinental London Westminster is due to open at the end of next month.

Likely to attract MPs, the 256-room hotel is opposite St James’s Park Tube station and occupies the site of a former Government building – Queen Anne’s Chambers.

Among the building’s previous occupants have been the Treasury Solicitor and the Brewers’ Society.

One of the lounge bars is Emmeline’s, named after votes-for-women campaigner Emmeline Pankhurst.

The rooms include 44 luxurious suites which will house several expensive pieces of art.

The main eating area will be the Blue Boar Smokehouse, with the menu revolving around
authentic smokehouse techniques.
