Motorists enjoy a drop in insurance

Car insurance premiums are falling on average after years of increases, according to the latest figures.

But some young male drivers are paying more than £5,000 a year for comprehensive cover.

And women drivers in some areas have seen rises in premiums, statistics from Confused.com and professional services company Towers Watson showed.

Up to March 2012, the average cost of a policy was £816. For women, insurance cost an average of £751 – 3 per cent less than a year ago, while men saw a 1.8 per cent decrease to £869.
