The Modfather’s album Sonik Kicks hits top spot

Veteran mod rocker Paul Weller stormed to the top of the album charts last night, the Official Charts Company said.

The former Jam frontman’s latest offering, Sonik Kicks, went straight to No.1 after being released last Monday.

The Modfather proved he is still going strong despite 40 years in the business.

It is his 11th album since launching a solo career in the early 1990s and features appearances from Britpop stalwarts Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon.

Weller took the top spot from the Military Wives Choir, whose In My Dreams release was No.1 last week but fell back to third place. Ahead of them was French DJ David Guetta’s fifth studio album, Nothing But The Beat, up from ninth.

In the singles chart, Gotye was knocked off the top spot by Katy Perry, whose latest single, Part of Me, went straight in at No.1.
