Memorial for Algeria siege victim

The widow of a man killed in the Algerian hostage crisis paid tribute to “the most amazing person I ever met” at a memorial service yesterday.

Sebastian John was one of six Britons killed during the siege at the In Amenas gas plant in
January. The 26-year-old, who had an eight-month-old son Ralph, was a civil engineer for BP and only arrived in Algeria a week before the crisis.

At a memorial service at Norwich Cathedral yesterday, his widow Nicola said: “Seb was the most amazing person I ever met.

“He really was one of a kind in the best possible way and I feel so lucky to have ever met him, and for him to have chosen me to spend his life with.

“I’m so proud of him for everything he did. He was my rock, my fantastic husband and Ralph’s amazing father.”

She added that she wished the couple had had more time together but said: “I am eternally grateful for the time we did have.”
