Jack told a number of people the next day that he had killed his friend after an argument.

Manchester Crown Court heard the victim was the defendant’s best man at his wedding in 1997.

Jack, of Stott House, Oldham, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to five years and four months in prison.

He also faces an extended licence period of five years on his release, said Greater Manchester Police.

Senior investigating officer Duncan Thorpe said: “Only David Jack really knows what happened that day. He is a dangerous individual who choked Rampersaud Ramnarine to death.

“Today’s outcome will hopefully allow the family to bring some closure to their loved one’s death. Jack has admitted the unlawful killing of Rampersaud and rightly been sentenced. He will also have to live with what he has done to his friend for the rest of his life.”
