Man charged after babysitter stabbed to death

An 18-year-old appeared in court yesterday charged with the murder of a teenager who was stabbed to death while babysitting her young niece and nephew.

Catherine Wynter, 19, had been looking after her sister’s children on Boxing Day. She was last heard from at around 7:30pm. Her body was found by her mother at 8am last Tuesday.

The man who appeared in court was named as Tony Bushby, from Borehamwood, the same Hertfordshire town where the murder took place.

The children, aged three and four, were in the house at the time of the murder but were not injured. It is believed they could hold vital clues about the incident. A post-mortem examination confirmed that Wynter died from stab injuries.

Detective Inspector Carl Foster, from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit, said: “Whilst a charge has been made, a team of detectives continue to work on the case”.
