Majority fear cuts will affect them

Most people fear public spending cuts will affect their families over the coming year, according to a survey.

While only a third of adults aged 16-75 said they were affected by the UK government’s recent cuts, two-thirds said they were concerned about the impact it would have on their families in the future.

The survey by insurer RSA and pollster Ipsos Mori showed 48 per cent of people felt the government made the wrong decisions about where the cuts should be made.

Adam Lent, an RSA director, said: “Our poll reveals that cuts have yet to have a major impact on most people’s everyday lives. However, concern is clearly much higher than the pain will be felt over the next year.

“With the vast bulk of the Chancellor’s spending reductions yet to come, this presents the government with maybe its biggest challenge.”
