Kidnap mother ‘released from jail’

THe mother of Shannon Matthews was thought to have been released from prison yesterday after serving less than half her sentence for kidnapping the nine-year-old.

Karen Matthews, then 33, was sent to jail for eight years in January 2009. It is understood she will be banned from returning to the area of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, where she lived.
