Groupon founder on list of notable parting shots

DESPITE the excitement it aroused on Twitter, Groupon founder Andrew Mason’s parting missive was simply another in a long line of notable sign-offs.

Even this week, the Pope caused consternation when he used his final speech at the Vatican to remark “it seemed the Lord was sleeping” at times during his papacy.

When Yahoo chief executive Carol Bartz was fired after just two-and-a-half years, she sent an e-mail to staff that said: “I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s chairman of the board.” As news of her dismissal spread, Yahoo was forced to confirm it was undertaking a “leadership reorganisation.”

And when Gordon Ramsay split with his former business partner and father-in-law, Chris Hutcheson, it was originally reported as a mutual decision to part ways. However, Hutcheson later confirmed that he had been fired, reportedly branding the chef a “monster.
