Freddie Starr: Don’t tar me with the same brush as Sir Jimmy Savile

TV PERSONALITY Freddie Starr has asked not to be “tarred with the same brush” as Sir Jimmy Savile, following allegations he sexually abused an underage girl at BBC studios.

The English comedian has denied claims he groped a 14-year-old at a dressing room party hosted by Sir Jimmy and fellow entertainer Gary Glitter.

The allegation has been voiced by Karin Ward, a former pupil at Duncroft Approved School in Surrey, who claimed she was subjected to the attack after being invited to London by Savile.

“It frightened me and freaked me out,” Ms Ward said.

“I rebuffed him [Starr] and he humiliated me in front of everyone in the dressing room by saying something really unkind about my lack of breasts which, to a 14-year-old girl, was just awful.”

Starr, who described Savile as a “scumbag” and a “paedophile”, accused Ms Ward of picking his name at random. He said he had first learned of the allegations on Thursday.

“I have never been in any situation with Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter, and I have certainly never been with this woman,” he said. “I think these women are very brave to come forward, but they shouldn’t drag my name through the mud.”
