Fisherman dies after falling from boat in North Sea

A fisherman has died after he went overboard from a boat in the North Sea in the early hours of the morning.

Lerwick lifeboat and a coastguard helicopter went to the scene around 30 miles south east of Sumburgh in Shetland when the alarm was raised at 3.20am on Thursday.

The coastguard said a man was airlifted to hospital in Lerwick – but he was later pronounced dead.

Police are working with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
