Female Scottish F1 driver to be featured in TV documentary

THE life and career of the only woman in the competitive world of Formula One is to be the subject of a no-holds-barred television documentary.

Susie Wolff will be featured in the BBC2 Scotland programme to be aired later this year.

The programme on the 30-year-old Scot, who is a development driver for the Williams team will include interviews with F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and David Coulthard.

Wolff, from Oban in Argyll, said: “I don’t race to prove how good women can be against men.

“I race because it’s my passion and I hope this documentary will give an insight into a very competitive world, in which I’ve been racing since I was a young girl.”

The programme, described as a candid insight into her life and work, is directed by her Bafta-nominated brother David  Stoddart, 31.

Filmmakers tailed the driver for nine months as they compiled the necessary footage for the show.

“Shooting the film was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” said Wolff, who lives in Switzerland.

“I’m a fairly private person, so to have my brother follow me for nine months, through some pretty difficult times – let’s just say it was a big challenge.”

The programme, The Fastest Woman In The World, is scheduled for the spring, although no date has yet been fixed.
