Eight-year-old spends £890 on Simpsons iPad game

AN eight-year-old from Bristol spent nearly £1,000 in just over two months buying add-ons for an iPad game based on TV cartoon The Simpsons.

Theo Rowland-Fry used his parents’ bank information, linked to the Apple device, to purchase £890 worth of tokens for additional characters and features in ‘Tapped Out’. Theo made over 100 individual purchases of the ‘doughnut’ tokens, according to The Sun.

Theo’s parents only noticed their son’s spending binge after the money had been removed from their account.

Theo’s father Nick told the newspaper: “We received no emails alerting us to what was happening.

“Theo is only just eight and has no real concept of the monetary value attached. As far as he was concerned he was just buying doughnuts.”

The Rowland-Frys have received a refund from Apple, who recommend that parents report such incidents as soon as possible.
