David Cameron in ‘battle for Britain’s future’ claim

DAVID Cameron will today claim he is leading the “battle for Britain’s future”, as he addresses his critics in his own party and in the opposition.

In a keynote speech ahead of the G8 and G20 summits in Northern Ireland, the Prime Minister will attack “national timidity” from those who reject the realities of the modern world and those who accept
globalisation “unquestioningly”.

And he will insist the UK needs to show determination to succeed and no longer has
a success guaranteed through national destiny.

He will say: “My driving purpose – and the entire mission of this government – can be simply stated. It is to turn our country around and give all our people the best chance of success.

“Everything we are doing has one aim: to ensure that we build a Britain that is stronger, more prosperous, more full of opportunity for our children. And I have confidence we can achieve that aim – but only if we take the right decisions now.

“Globalisation has changed much. But it cannot alter this central fact: it is still nations, their leaders and their people, which forge their own destiny in this world. History is not written for us, it is written by us – in the action we take today and the national resolve we show.

He will add: “And it’s no use just giving in to the world – we’ve got to be unashamedly bold and hard-headed about pursuing our national interests.

“The challenge before us is clear. We are in a battle for Britain’s future. And it is a battle that must fight on two fronts. At home, ambitious about competing. Abroad, ambitious about pursuing our national interest and standing up for our values.”
