Dairy farmers rally to protect milk prices

HUNDREDS of UK dairy farmers have formed a group to try to prevent further cuts to the price they are paid for milk.

Dairy Farmers Together was launched at Lanark Agricultural Centre yesterday and will be given £100,000 by the Scottish Government.

Groups including the National Farming Unions and Farmers For Action aim to maximise benefits for milk farmers in a new voluntary code of conduct for the sector, which will be drawn up in August.

It follows a series of protests against planned cuts by supermarket suppliers such as Robert Wiseman, First Milk and Dairy Crest.
