Council defends scheme for non-whites only

Bristol: A council has defended a call to exclude white people from applying to join a management training scheme.

Bristol City Council is facing criticism after the graduate placement was offered only to ethnic minorities. The council said the process was legal and is addressing an imbalance in the ethnic mix of its workforce.

Wiltshire: The bodies of three servicemen killed in Afghanistan were set to return to Britain today. Gunner Zak Cusack, of 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, and Corporal Stephen Curley and Marine Scott Taylor, both of 40 Commando, Royal Marines, were to be flown back to RAF Lyneham.
