Police yesterday released Hendry without charge, with a police spokesman saying: “Colin Hendry was arrested and held but no charges have been laid against him.”

The father of four met his current partner, Sarah Kinder, in 2010 the year after the death of his first wife Denise, who died after complications from cosmetic surgery.

Hendry was declared bankrupt in the same year with over £1 million worth of debts owed to the Inland Revenue and online gaming companies.
