Children going hungry as parents face food bill rises

CHILDREN are bearing the brunt of the recession, with one in six youngsters from struggling families going to bed hungry,
according to a charity.

Around three-fifths of the poorest families in Scotland have had to cut the amount
they spend on food in the last year, the research from Save the Children reveals.

Two large-scale surveys questioned both parents and children in cash-strapped households. Almost 40 per cent of parents in the worst-off families say they are stressed and constantly worry about how to make ends meet.
