Carer charged after girl stabbed

Surrey: A health carer was charged today with two counts of grievous bodily harm after a six-year-old girl was stabbed in the chest and her mother wounded in the hand.

Robert Knox, 28, from Russell Court on Guildford's Bellfields Estate, was set to appear in front of the town's magistrates today.

The girl's injuries were described as serious but she is "doing well" in hospital.

Cumbria: A solicitor shot dead in his driveway by gun maniac Derrick Bird will be laid to rest today. Kevin Commons, 60, was the second victim of Bird's horror rampage.
