British man plotted to rape, kill and eat children

A BRITISH man is facing a 27-year jail term after admitting to the construction of a soundproof dungeon in which he plotted to rape, kill and eat children at his American home.

Geoffrey Portway, 40, spent months discussing the kidnap and murder which he planned to carry out in an underground chamber lined with material to muffle any sound.

He boasted of his intention to lock children in the basement of his Massachusetts home which was equipped with a steel cage, a child-sized home-made coffin, scalpels, butchering kits, freezers and castration tools in a series of disturbing web chats.

Portway admitted soliciting the kidnap of a child and distribution and possession of child pornography as part of a plea agreement, the US Attorney’s Office said.

Portway was arrested in July 2012 after US investigators allegedly found child pornography and photos of children who appeared to be dead on his computer.

Police said he chatted online with two men who talked about their desire to abduct, kill and eat children.

The arrest of Portway formed part of a larger, international-scale investigation which has seen 50 suspects detained and over 160 children rescued in the United States, Canada and Europe.
