Sian Green filed a notice of claim against the city over the incident in August, in which a taxi mounted the pavement in New York’s Rockefeller Centre and struck her.

Her lawyer, Daniel Marchese, said other parties might also face lawsuits.

Ms Green’s $27.5m (£16.7m) claim states the driver’s taxi licence should have been suspended before the accident as he had a record of past driving violations.

The city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission has cited a now-fixed computer problem with allowing the taxi driver, Mohammed Fasyal Himon, to continue working.

Himon has said the accident was not his fault. New York’s Law Department says it will review the claim.
