Blood down street after bagpiper stabbed in Yorkshire

PARAMEDICS who tried to help a talented young bagpipe player after he was fatally stabbed in a village street have described blood running down the road when they arrived.

Craig Hepburn, 19, died and Connor Paton, 18, was injured after they were attacked hours after arriving in Marsden, West Yorkshire, to visit Mr Hepburn’s uncle.

The trial of the two men accused of his murder – Anthony Driver and Luke Elliott – yesterday heard statements from a paramedic who tried to save his life as he lay in a gutter.

Leeds Crown Court heard the first crews on the scene had been waiting a short distance away when one of Mr Hepburn’s relatives ran up to them as the attackers fled. They were later joined by another paramedic team and two doctors.

In her statement, paramedic Kathryn Barraclough said: “There was a lot of blood running down the street.”

Ms Barraclough said it was clear to them they faced a serious situation. She said Mr Hepburn was unconscious but still breathing.

She said she struggled to get a pulse and he was clearly dying.

Paramedic practitioner Graham Butcher said he arrived to find “a great deal of blood running down the road”.
