Better start for businesses

BUSINESSES in Scotland have had a better start to 2012 than last year, according to a report today.

Results of a business survey, based on the first quarter of this year, showed a slight improvement in economic activity between January and March.

In the tourism industry, expectations for the year ahead are said to be at their highest level in four years.

However, the survey, by Scottish Chambers of Commerce in conjunction with the University of Strathclyde’s Fraser of Allander Institute, said widespread difficulties remain.
