BBC apologises to Prescott for broadcasting 'bullying' allegations

THE BBC apologised to John Prescott last night for broadcasting allegations that he was a school bully.

The Deputy Prime Minister categorically denied the claims, made by the alleged victim on BBC Radio 4's PM programme.

Identifying himself as "Trevor from Hull", a listener invited the programme to challenge Mr Prescott about "what happened to Trevor's dinner money all those years ago".

A spokesman for Mr Prescott said: "He is very clear that this item is completely untrue and we were surprised the BBC chose to broadcast this item without checking the facts first."

A source pointed out that while the "victim" was from Hull, Mr Prescott's constituency, the politician went to school in Cheshire. The caller had said: "If he claims he can't remember, remind him about the four bottles of champagne he sent over out of shame when he found himself in the same restaurant as Trevor."
