2,000 jobs at risk as receivers called in at clothing store

CHILDREN'S clothing store Adams went into administration for the second time in little more than a year yesterday, casting doubt over 2,000 jobs.

Adams was rescued from collapse last January by JS Childrenswear, but the company is now under the control of administrators MCR.

The retailer, which has more than 120 stores in the UK, also supplies Boots with the Mini Mode own-brand range.

Administrators said "all options" were being considered for the business and that staff were "understandably concerned". This is the third time that Adams, which once boasted 270 UK stores, has fallen into administration in less than four years.

MCR partner Paul Clark said: "Like many retailers, it has experienced a difficult trading environment during the past 12 months, which has been exacerbated by a further downturn and general tightening of the credit markets."

He said administrators spoke to staff across the business yesterday. He added: "The company is trading as normal while all options are considered. We are now looking at the viability of the business with a view to securing a going concern sale."
