10,000 protest at airport duty

MPs have received more than 10,000 e-mails from constituents in the last two weeks over the level of the air passenger duty, a campaign group has revealed.

Voters have sent MPs a template e-mail from the website of campaign group A Fair Tax on Flying, which seeks a reduction in APD. The duty rose by around 8 per cent in April this year.

The group wants MPs to back a motion which expresses concern about the impact of APD “on ordinary families and their ability to fly” and has won the cross-party support of 44 MPs.

Tory MP Graham Brady MP said: “I hope the Treasury will be persuaded to look again at the impact of this damaging tax.”
