UK News: Property searched after Swedish blast

Police are searching a property in the UK as part of a probe into the weekend's car bombing in Sweden, Scotland Yard said today.

Metropolitan Police officers executed a search warrant last night at a property in Bedfordshire under the Terrorism Act 2000, the force said.

Terror threat 'still real'

A COUNTER-terrorism publicity campaign to remind people that the threat to the UK remains real and serious was launched today.

The two-week initiative, featuring a 40-second radio advert, has the message "if you suspect it, report it".

A police spokesman said: "Everyone has a role to play."

Two more in custody over student fees riots

TWO more people arrested by police investigating disorder during the tuition fee demonstrations were in custody today.

Charlie Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd frontman David, was arrested yesterday at his home in Sussex.

A 17-year-old, who was allegedly in one of a first batch of 14 pictures of people wanted in connection with violence, handed himself in.

Retirement plans 'risky'

Business leaders today urged the government to delay planned changes to the retirement age, warning that firms faced "huge uncertainty" and greater risk of tribunal claims if they went ahead.

The CBI said scrapping the so-called default retirement age from next April would create "unintended consequences".

From next year, employers will not be allowed to dismiss staff because they reach the age of 65, but the CBI said the rules around retirement would become less clear.

The 27-year-old triumphed over fellow finalist Liverpudlian Rebecca Ferguson in a closely-fought contest to take the 2010 title.

London: A man will appear in court today charged with the murder of a woman found dead at a house.

The 23-year-old is accused of murdering Jacqueline Barrett in Cricklewood and will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court.

Yorkshire: Former England football star Paul Gascoigne will go on trial today accused of drink-driving.

The ex-Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur player is accused of driving a Ford Transit van while more than four times the limit on February 7 at Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire.
