UK news: Cameron set to unveil revised health plans

PRIME Minister David Cameron was today unveiling revised NHS reform plans after a review found "deep seated concerns" about the original proposals to extend competition and hand control of £60 billion to GPs.

Nick Clegg claimed the Lib Dems' key demands had been "very, very handsomely met".

Libya 'stretching forces'

Intervention in Libya is unsustainable, the head of the Royal Navy has warned.

First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope said cuts would be needed elsewhere if it lasted beyond six months. He said the operation would have been cheaper if the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal had not been scrapped.

Chair champion gets BBC staff's feet under table

THE BBC has employed a 'chair champion' to help staff moving to Salford Quays choose their seats - and learn to sit on them.

Staff moving north are being given a choice of three different high-tech chairs. The 'chair champion' helps them make their selection - then shows them how to use their choice correctly as part of the corporation's health and safety training.

BBC bosses said it was standard practice for inductions to new buildings.

'Alarming' donor drop

A 20 PER cent drop in the number of young blood donors over the last decade has sparked fears of an "alarming generation gap" in blood donation.

Just 14 per cent of people who donate regularly are under 30, while more than two-thirds are over 40, according to new figures from NHS Blood and Transplant.

It wants 10,000 people to "make a date to donate".

PIPPA Middleton was today reported to be planning to move abroad to work after splitting from boyfriend Alex Loudon. The Duchess of Cambridge's sister was said to be hoping to go to France and work on events for the Cannes film festival.

West Midlands: A 12-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a bus. The emergency services rescued her from underneath the single-decker vehicle, but she later died in hospital.

Cornwall: A species of shark thought to be behind hundreds of attacks on humans has been sighted near St Ives. Two people on separate boats reported seeing an oceanic white tip shark a mile offshore. One sighting was made by a fisherman who had fished off St Ives for 30 years, whose wooden boat was rammed by one of the sharks as he fished for mackerel.
