UK is facing biggest strike action since 1926

Britain will see its biggest wave of industrial action since the 1926 general strike in the wake of Government pension reforms, the leader of the largest public sector union has said.

Dave Prentis, of Unison, made the comments as furious unions threatened to walk away from talks over coalition plans.

Olympic tickets to be sold

Some 2.3 million tickets for the London 2012 Olympics are set to go on sale next week, organisers have announced. The tickets, for people who were unsuccessful in the initial ballot, will go on sale at 6am on 24 June on a first come, first served basis. Nearly two-thirds of applicants missed out on tickets first time around.

Homes evacuated after fire breaks out at docks

HUNDREDS of people have been forced to spend the night away from their homes as a cordon remains around the site of a fire at Falmouth Docks.

The blaze started among acetylene cylinders outside a warehouse at the docks on Friday. Police set up a 300 metre exclusion zone and said this was expected to stay in place until later on today.

There were no reports of injuries in the fire, and many of the cylinders involved were believed to be empty.

MPs probe stalking laws

A "PEOPLE'S inquiry" has been launched to help reform anti-stalking laws in England.

MPs and peers will focus on cyber-stalking and consider whether the existing laws in England and Wales are tough enough.

Elfyn Llwyd MP, chairman of the Justice Unions Parliamentary Group, will lead the inquiry, which also aims to tackle "society's lenient attitude towards stalking".

Cole to be face of The Voice

FORMER X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has been tipped to star in the new BBC talent show The Voice.

The will programme sees judges choose contestants in a "blind" audition process and be aired next year. Cole was recently dropped from the US version of the X Factor.

West Yorkshire: Police have begun a murder inquiry after an elderly woman robbed in the street died of her injuries. The 89-year-old was mugged in Quarry Road, Gomersal, shortly before 2pm on Friday. Police said she was reportedly attacked by a man who made off with her bag and left her with serious head injuries.

Wales: Gang members who planned to flood south Wales with drugs worth 50 million have been jailed for a total of almost 70 years. The ten men were behind what police told Cardiff Crown Court was the biggest ever seizure of heroin in Wales.
