Two trapped under bus in Glasgow city centre

A SECTION of a busy Glasgow shopping street was cordoned off by the emergency services after two people were struck by a bus.

The incident happened at about 2.30pm at the corner of Queen Street and Argyle Street in the city centre.

Police and ambulance crews and a number of fire engines were deployed to the scene.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We received a report about 2.30pm that two people had been struck by a bus at the corner of Queen Street and Argyle Street in Glasgow. Emergency services are on the scene.

“The road is closed with diversions in place.”

A man and woman believed to be in their 50s or 60s were eventually removed from under the vehicle and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

A spokeswoman for First Group said: “We can confirm an incident occurred this afternoon involving a First Glasgow service and two pedestrians.

“We are doing everything we can to support the emergency services and a full investigation to establish exactly what happened is under way.”
