Two students scoop design accolades

Two Scottish students have won prestigious awards at one of the foremost design exhibitions in the world.

The New Designers Exhibition took place at the Business Design Centre in London, and the awards are described as “the top accolade to which every design student aspires”.

Edinburgh College of Art student Joanna Srokol came away with the New Designers Sanderson Award for her hand-painted abstract panels. The award also saw her pick up £1000 and a two-week paid work placement.

The Goldsmiths’ Company Award for Jewellery went to Mairi Johnstone, from Duncan of Jordanstone college of Art and Design.

Mairi won a £1000 and ten years’ registration at the Goldsmiths Company Assay Office for Come to Your Senses, a perfume bottle crafted in silver.
